I want to apply as an athletic trainer but I currently have a PT degree?

I have a PT degree from back home which is currently recognized by the FSBPT here in the US. I want to apply as an athletic trainer, or at least start training or volunteering for it. Is this doable? Also, if I would like to get an athletic training license, will my degree suffice or I need to take another athletic training course? Who can I contact to do this or are there sites/places I can go to to start making connections? Thanks!
