How can I get a passport when my birth record is sealed?

Im trying to get my passport so I can take this DoD job in Afgahnistan. The only problem is I was born in NJ and they dont release birth records to adoptees(which I was) or those born in a military hospital. I was in the military so I was wondering if my records will suffice as proof of citizenship or am I just screwed? Serious answers only please.
